Sunday Stills — Telephone Lines

This week at Sunday Stills, our challenge was telephone/power lines and billboards.  We don’t have any billboards around us for at least an hour away and I wasn’t planning on going to the Big City just to shoot them.  But, I do have telephone lines all around.

Our property is about 40 acres and our “upper pasture” is around 12just by itself.  Back in the late 50′s and early 60′s when the dam for our local lake/ reservoir (see yesterday’s post) was being built, our property was built up with trailers for the “dam workers” to live in.  Our house we are in now was actually a bath house with a crowned floor, potty holes and a boys and girls side — that’s all gone of course.  But what remains of that little trailer village is the telephone line that guts our property when it should have been moved back to follow the power lines that go off the backside in a straight line, instead of a U shape.

052809_1884

Though we live in the country, almost every where I take photos around my pasture, I get these lines and poles.  I’ve tried cropping them, cloning them, and shooting around but somehow they end up being right there in the view.

052809_1885

Even shots of the sky are bothered.

052809_1887

I guess if it’s dark enough outside, you can’t tell they’re there… kind of.

Someday I plan to have the phone company out to re-route them and then I’ll have a clear view of the mountains around me.  Until then, I have to be creative to get them out of my photos.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Scenes of our Fishing Trip

We took a trip to our local lake last night with some friends of ours and though if the lake was full we’d be under water, we had fun anyway.

052909_1919

The tree line to the right and left is where the water is supposed to be at.  This cute little stream is supposed to be quite a ways behind me dumping in to what would be our lake/reservoir.

052909_1929

I bought burritos (because I didn’t feel like making anything) from a local Pizza/Sandwich/Burrito shop.  They were pretty good!

052909_1939

“Toots” — number 3 out of 4 of our friend’s girls, and the most complicated in personality.  She likes pink too.

052909_1942

I believe you know this little girl.

052909_1943

Apparently she likes fishing.

052909_1945

Just like her ol’ Dad.

By the way, that nice little rocky stream would normally not exist when the lake is full.  But it sure was fun for the girls to play in!  Hubby’s line is in the “lake” just down and to the right.

052909_1947

We saw a bald eagle, and I didn’t have my telephoto lens on.

052909_1948

Curtis the stream jumper.  Contrary to popular belief, he actually made it… barely.

052909_1949

How many blonds does it take to operate a pink Barbie fishing pole?

052909_1951

052909_1956

“Fish fear me.”

052909_1958

No Suburbans got dusty in the making of this… well, never mind.

052909_1964

I think we’re in for a treat with the sky — thunderheads moving in.

052909_1972

052909_1975

By the look of the clothes and the hair, obviously there was an “oops.”

052909_1985

“Boo boo baby.”

052909_1987

She’s not too keen on cold water.

052909_1993

“Zoozer” — she wanted me to take her picture.

052909_1981

How come this little face keeps finding her way into my lens?

052909_1982

“Toots” –She wants to be a super model when she grows up.  Yikes… Not really.  She probably would like to be a bar tender or a gladiator — oh and a princess too.

052909_1994

Some of our loot.  I found the cool “necklace rock.”

052909_1995

The sun setting leaving it’s last rays on the opposite mountain.  Oh look!  The lake is over yonder… What a nice lush meadow this is… or at least the bottom of the lake makes for good grass habitat.

052909_1996

Time for a nice sleep curled up in a cozy little bed.

052909_1997

Nice big rocks are good for the biceps and good for a splash in the water.  And after it gets too cold to play in the water — the silty sand is good for playing in.

052909_2025

“Mommy, I got sand in my eye.”

052909_2029

It’s getting dark.  Where did Daddy and Curtis go?

052909_2034

A couple of toots on the horn calls the boys in from their bass “honey hole.”  We had a good time — more to come.

Who’s That?

052509_1781

“Oh my word!… What do you suppose…?”

“Stop asking questions about things you shouldn’t ask about Daphne.”

052509_1782

“I… I… I just can’t seem to figure out WHAT that is!  Do you think it’s dangerous?”

052509_1784

“I really don’t know.  Maybe if we pretend to chew on some grass she’ll do us no harm.”

052509_1783

“Watch my back while I call for help.”

052509_1789

“What’s all the ruckus around here!?  Will someone tell us what is going on?”

052509_1795

“Oh brother.  That’s just the Shepherdess with the camera up to her face.  Everyone calm down.”

052509_1790

“It sure is.  Hey, you owe me some scratches.”

052509_1799

“Oooh, that’s the spot.  Right there — Sorry Shepherdess, they just don’t know a good thing when they see it.”

052509_1797

“Hey don’t look at me!  I’m new around here.”

Cowgirl Annie — Then and Now

Annie&Stew

Cowgirl Annie, last April with our first calf “Stew.”

052509_1733

Cowgirl Annie, this May withour first calf “Pigpen” (yes, it’s sticking but atleast once he dried off the flies were gone.)

Cowgirl Annie is really a true cowgirl.  When we bought our little herd of Herefords we told the lady who was selling them to us to register them all in Annie’s name — they remain hers today.  Though she has parent’s who “govern” her little herd they are nontheless hers.  I think she’s pretty proud of them too… Anticipating our next calf here at Mud Ranch.

A New Type of Twins

We had quite a surprise today, so much that I will now do two posts in a day!  We have been expecting our cows to calve any day now and this will be our second season to have calves here on Mud Ranch so we are by no means “experienced.”

052509_1705

Here’s “Pigpen,” or so I’m calling him for now — who knows, maybe it’ll stick.  But you can see why I’ve called him that with the swarm of flies around him, poor little guy.

Here’s my warning now — if you have a queesy stomach and/or can’t handle the good and bad of life this is probably not the post for you.

I noticed that right after Twinky had Pigpen, she wasn’t really cleaning him off and actually laid down pretty quickly after she gave birth to him.  That was quite unusual from last year’s calvings.  I also noticed that her eyes were quite dialated like she was a little fearful.  I had walked up on the two to check the calf and take care of him but hadn’t seen Twinky really react with her eyes the way she was.

052509_1711

Poor little Pigpen was left with goo on his body and a little blood on his face that was attracting all the flies.  Last year, they were crisp white and red not long after birth.

052509_1714

This year something was just off.  I went back inside to complete my post about Lewis’ mill, my window was open so I could hear if anything was amiss and my two nephews were out in the pasture whacking our bull thistle with hoes so I knew I had some extra sets of eyes out there should anything happen that was odd…. And odd it was.  My nephew, Jeremiah, came running to the house and told me that it looked like Twinky was having another calf.  I thought, and I’m sure said outloud, “no way – it’s extremely rare to have twins in cattle.”  So I followed him out, carrying my phone in case something should need a calling to Hubby.  I saw a bulging sack coming out of Twinky’s nether regions as she was lying down and the sack was not as clear as a lamb’s.  So I slowly approached and noticed a little white stripe down the withers of the second calf!  It really is another, a naturally occuring twin hereford.

052509_1717

Twinky then stood up and I could tell right away that the second calf was dead.  Once he dropped out, he didn’t move a muscle, cough or sputter.  I slowly and quietly approached and cleared his mouth and nose to see if I could get some sort of reaction and then pressed on his gums to check for a capillary refill but nothing — the gums were white with no color.  He was still born and actually larger than his brother who was born perfectly healthy about 30 minutes before hand.

052509_1719

I went back toward the house, called Hubby and then looked up twin calves and found this tidbit of information:

Rutledge found that there was a difference in twinning rates between dairy cattle and beef cattle breeds with dairy cattle experiencing a higher frequency. Dairy cattle ranged from a 1.3% incidence in Jerseys, 3.4% in Holsteins and an 8.9% incidence in Brown Swiss. Small differences were reported in beef breeds with Hereford cattle having the lowest incidence (0.4% or one out of every 250 births) of twinning while Angus had 1.1% incidence. The Bos Indicus breeds experienced 0.2% and 0.4% twinning rates in Brahman and Santa Gertrudis, respectively.

So what just happened in my pasture is something that happens once out of 250 births — pretty rare! I really couldn’t find too much other information on naturally occuring twins in hereford cattle either. I’ll continue my search and though I’m sad the second didn’t make it, I’m just happy the first is a healthy happy “Pigpen.”

Crisp white and red photos are sure to come in the near future!

Lewis’ Mill

I finally took my camera, or was inspired at the time to actually shoot it, at my Godfather’s property where he mills all our lumber.  Lewis has milled our lumber since we started our barn building around 6 years ago — if my husband realized how long we’ve been building our barn he’d have a heart attack.

051409_1251

I can’t remember exactly how much acreage he has there, but this is the back side and the house is down through the trees out of view on the left.  Behind me and a little to the right is where he has his mill set up and lots of stacks of already milled lumber.

051409_1291

Above is what used to be an oak log, now turning into some nice looking lumber!

Lewis has what is called a Woodmeizer band-saw mill and it is actually portable and very efficient.  The motor that drives the mill is a four cylinder diesel.  When it cuts, it is very efficient in wood as it’s only losing a small amount to shavings as where you would lose a big amount with a thicker saw blade.

051409_1301

Lewis has been working in the woods his whole life and enjoys being out in the shavings of his mill.  There is a man who can fall a huge tree in exactly the spot he wants it to — it really is an art.  And the biggest art is to love the forest and take care of it, which includes (unbeknown to radical environmentalists) logging.  When you log trees, you are essentially thinning the forest which creates a healthier environment for the trees that are left to grow in.  Otherwise they’d be crowded — kind of like if you left a bunch of livestock in a small pen, they’d get sick and eventually die off.  The other thing that Lewis gets irritated with is when we aren’t allowed to log forests that have burned (something that happens regularly around here in Northern California) the bugs move in and attack the dead trees, they then move on to trees that have a low “immune” system in the surrounding live forest and start to kill off good trees.  He believes that we are given a large duty on this earth, and that is to be good stewards of the land and animals that inhabit it — just as God has asked us to.

051409_1311

Part of the logged tree’s problems are the pests that move in, and quickly.  Here is one of Lewis’ prized firs that is inhabited by carpenter ants, no sooner did we leave than he started to mill up this log.  He didn’t want the rot in the tree to become a nuisance and create a home for the bugs to live.

051409_1278

Part of the fun in the visit to Lewis’ place is the interesting machinery around.  He has very old machinery, but that’s the way he likes it — because they are good “work horses” and last long and are hardy.  Lewis isn’t in to new and fancy things.  I like the contrast of flowers and equipment — one of my weird-isms.

051409_1259

This is the same type of flower that is growing in between the tires of that big tractor above.  This particular plant is growing out in that large luscious meadow.

051409_1255

This is the same flower but at a different stage in it’s life — I’m not sure if it’s going to open here, or if it’s done blooming.

051409_1275

And this lovely plant, which grows every where around here (and actually I don’t get along with it all that well,) is poison oak.  I have a nice little batch of it right now, the first of the season, on my arms and legs.  Not too many spots but enough to be a nuisance.  It does look pretty growing on this tree though, and in the fall the vibrant red color is gorgeous!  Someone once told me they saw a person collecting the poison oak in the fall along a road side and they were sure the person had no idea what it was — and assumed they thought it would make a nice wreath.  Who knows?

051409_1289

Here’s Lewis’ old faithful tractor.  He actually hayed our field with this thing and that sure was a pretty picture!  There’s just something picturesque about an old tractor sitting out in a field.

051409_1285

I actually got Annie to kind of smile at me — after multiple times of trying to get her attention.  That’s the trouble with kids who have moms that are always pointing a camera in their face — they quickly learn how to ignore it!

See the patch of little white flowers to her left there in the grass?  I have never seen that flower around here before and maybe it’s just because it only grows at that certain elevation or area (Lewis lives about an hour away from us — everybody is about an hour away from us.)

051409_1277

Here is is up close in it’s little family cluster.  They grew only about an inch and a half tall so they looked like they were sitting right on the ground.  Anyone know what it is?

In another post, I’ll show you what we’ve done recently with Lewis’ milled lumber, and what Hubby has turned it into.

Photo Cards are Here — And a Gift

Okay, I ordered my photo cards through Snapfish a couple days ago and I seriously cannot believe they’ve already arrived.

052109_1697

There is a pretty heavy little box here on my counter that is full of 16 different photo cards, 7 of each.  Over all quality is pretty good!  I think that if I were to order them through MOO, they would be higher quality but these are not bad at all.  Really, they are of the quality that some are in stores with a high gloss finish and a nice weight.  Some of the fancy borders I put on a few didn’t come out as I had hoped as they got cut off a bit but they were so subtle on some that it doesn’t seem to really matter and I doubt anyone except the “creator” (me) would notice.

052109_1698

Overall, I am pretty well pleased — even more so since I won a little gift certificate over at the Pioneer Woman (shocking, I know — you now know someone who has won over there) just by signing up with Snapfish through her site I was put into a drawing for a gift certificate (this was unknown by me) and I won… get this… $150.00!!  How cool was that!?  So, I ordered these up and only had to pay a hefty FedEx charge but it sure beat buying all of these!  And yes, I used up my whole certificate.  I really couldn’t believe the timing on that win though, it sure brightened my day!

So now my gift to those who want to try out my other favorite spot, MOO, where I bought my business cards.  You can type in my special code and receive 20% off if you are a first time customer.  So those who were interested in getting your own business cards, now is the time.  You can also now order from their USA plant based out of Rhode Island and get faster, cheaper shipping because they’re now not coming from the UK like I’ve done before.  So here’s the code: 77WPXH.  Remember this is a one time, one product, first time customer deal… Enjoy!

Sew Bored

Well, I don’t think I’m ever bored but when I was given a new tomato and bought the pins to go in it — I got a little over-bored.

051109_1231

Yes, those are my initials in white.

But the reasoning behind this post, is my newest bag.  I’ve made it even better than the others (seems like I’m always finding things that could/should be adjusted to make a better bag.)

051909_1612

This is Funky Flowers, with yellow, aqua, and chocolate being the main coloring.  I actually think this is my favorite now and it is my sis-in-law’s favorite too.  I’m planning on making Annie a dress out of this same fabric combo… too cute!

051909_1613

I used a much heavier-duty craft fuse for the internal structure which makes it stand up better and the handles are more stiff as well.  There are your four pockets on the inside with the aqua and chocolate dots for the lining.  The four pockets on the outside are completely lined this time around, which makes for a much higher quality bag.  Atleast my wheels are still turning and I’m much more satisfied with each bag.

Sunday Stills — Eyes

This week I had planned on doing a bang-up job on the eye post and had all sorts of little schemes in my thoughts but none of them worked out due to lack of time.  So, here’s a few that I was able to get anyway.

051509_1355

I liked this one of my ram lamb Luis because you can read the thoughts in his eyes.  I was scratching his mama on her chest (a favorite spot) and he was thinking she was crazy and that I was a predator so he stood only a couple feet away, at her rear hip peeking around to watch my “attack” unfold.  I think he was rather disappointed.

051509_1400

This is our two year old heifer, Jessica.  She has taken a liking to me and when I was trying to get updated pictures of our lambs she wouldn’t leave me alone.  I kept hearing her breath on the back of my hair and then of course came the drool that always seems to leak out of cow’s mouths.

051509_1565

And then this is Sunnie’s eye, after he had a bath this past Friday.  Definitely not one of my favorite “eye shots” of horses — you can make them so neat looking but never-the-less, it is his eye.

050109_1096

And finally, the color version from last week’s black and white.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Horsing Around… Sunnie attends camp

Yesterday my mom and dad watched Annie for me and I was able to play with my horse in the afternoon — after taking loads of pictures of the lambs, trying to update my website….

051509_1504

I took Sunnie over to my friend Dixie’s house for some desensitizing exercises and she has a very scary home with lots of action.  Sunnie was turned out into her arena for some bonding time with her mustang Otter (one of the ‘original’ Extreme Mustang Makeover contenders who went to Fort Worth, TX a couple years ago.)  They got along pretty well and I was impressed with how nice Sunnie was, I wasn’t sure considering he was a stallion for five years of his life — on another note, did you notice I’ve officially found my real self, yep, I’ve named myself “Little Sure Shot Photography, after Annie Oakley’s nick-name.

051509_1483

Otter is an absolutely stunning horse, and the major plus is that he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.  I really really like him, he’s a definite favorite of mine in the equine world.

051509_1501

He’s very gentle around other horses too, I think that’s one reason Sunnie wasn’t threatened at all.  Sunnie is a very gentle horse too, but I wasn’t sure how things would turn out… You never know when a horse used to know what hormones felt like.

051509_1538

Sunnie says, “Stop laughing.”

After the romp in the arena, Sunnie went into the round pen to start Dixie’s School of Desensitization — this is where Dixie really excels in horse training.  She can get any horse to accept various “scary objects.”  The noodles are a great idea because they fall apart quickly if anything remotely dangerous should happen.  In fact, there were a couple on the ground that Sunnie broke in half just by stepping on them as he trotted around the ring.

051509_1542

It wasn’t long before he was testing out the noodle ring for himself.

051509_1549

The ball was the scariest object for him to get over.  He’s still not completely sure of it, but before long, Dixie will have it bouncing off his whole body without a flinch from Sunnie.  Otter gets it bounced off his face and doesn’t bat an eye.

051609_1573

Today we attended a  little clinic that Dixie hosted at our local arena where we learned about colors of horses, body condition, different feeds and other educational horsey things.  I was told to bring two of my horses for their coloring as it is so different and many people get them confused with buckskins.  We had a great time playing around with the horses.

051609_1585

Nevermind the false name — it was  a brain fart from earlier today…

This is the daughter of a friend of mine with her little 18 year old Hackney pony.  He is such a good little pony for her and she is doing wonderfully with him — a definite little cowgirl there.

051609_1607

This is “L’s” little sister, “J.”  She posed with a lady who brought her quarter horse mare and couple weeks old colt.  The colt had enough for the day and lay down for a snooze.  Notice all the curious horses in the back?  The two on the left are mine, Otter is on the right… Looks like they all wanted to be in the picture.

Have a good weekend!

Jack Jack’s Big Wabbit Hunt

Sorry for the quality of pictures — I try to be very good and only post nice photos of high quality, well, as high of quality as I can get.  But this morning something laughable (to say the least) was happening outside my windows and I didn’t want to open a door to get a good shot because I knew I would disrupt the goings-on.

051409_1200

Out in the pasture was a show-down at high…. 9:00 am.  Jack, my indoor cat turned outdoor-for-a-few-hours-a-day-cat decided to hunt a wascally wabbit and though in this picture the “bubby” (as Annie calls them) looks quite a bit larger than Jack but that rabbit only has a slight height advantage… well, and the racing legs help too but Jack has weight behind him being that he is around 18lbs.

051409_1202

The Villain

The funny thing about this whole “idea” is that the rabbit was just as curious of Jack as Jack was curious of the rabbit – and had Big Intentions on killing himself his own lunch (this is a cat who only eats kibble, even if given the chance of eating meat.)

051409_1205

The Sleek Deputy

Now, you gotta wonder if Jack could really concentrate on the task at hand with his belly dragging across the tickling grass like that.

051409_1207

Back and forth the rabbit went in front of Jack while Jack thought he was well hidden in the grass, readying himself for a big pounce.

051409_1210

051409_1212

What you will see next is almost horrifying — don’t say I didn’t warn you.

051409_1214

Bubby got away…

Regardless, I’m proud of my little house-frow.  What a brave hunter he is!

Hmmm… Jack is hunting a… Jack Rabbit!

Mackenzie — Worn-out Pup

My “Other Mom,” Glenda came for a visit this past Friday all the way from Northern Idaho.  She brought with her their newest member to the family, Mackenzie (obviously finger paints can be wearing on puppies.)

050809_1140

Her dad is a Bernese Mountain Dog and her mom is a Border Collie and Aussie Shepherd cross — Mackenzie is a very interesting mix!  She is fairly short though only 6 months old, but very stocky.

050809_1142

Being as busy as she was, she would crash on to the floor next to Glenda and would just about fall asleep…

050809_1145

050809_1146

…And then a “Huh?!  Are we ready to go yet?”  I think the Aussie/Border Collie kept creeping in and sticking tooth picks between those eye lids.

She was a cutie and oh so sweet.  What a wonderful dog she’ll grow to be.

I Heart Faces – Laughter

I have been meaning to participate in I Heart Faces challenges the past few weeks but just haven’t seemed to be able to get my act together.  This week I had more incentive because 1. I thought the challenge looked interesting and fun and 2. I was excited that Ree over at the Pioneer Woman was going to be the guest judge!

For my Children’s Entry, I have this little girl nick-named “Zoozer” — she has a fun laugh and such sparkley eyes!  Her Daddy (I inspired him to start a blog too!) was pushing her along a zip-line that is strung between two trees and her face shows that she was giggling every second of the way!

041209_0371

My second for the Adult Entry is actually of Zoozer’s Mom!  She and her husband have four little girls and they were at my parent’s in law’s house for some fun on the trampoline and the zip-line, obviously Maleah was enjoying watching her kids participate in silly kid stuff.  I love that she had no idea I was pointing the camera at her… and I better watch my back if she happens to look at my blog this week. ;)

041209_0269

To go visit all the other particpants for this week, go check out I Heart Faces!

Sunday Stills & Happy Mother’s Day!

From over at Sunday Stills, the theme this week was black and white of any of the previous assignments and being that it’s mother’s day I chose this photo of my ewe (from the Animal’s of Husbandry theme) still nursing her twin boys who are now two and a half months old.

Aren’t you glad that if you had twins they wouldn’t have horns!?

Things My Mother Taught  Me…

My mother taught me —  TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
“If you’re going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.”

My  mother taught me – RELIGION.
“You better pray that will come out of the carpet.”

My mother taught me – LOGIC.
“Because I said so, that’s why.”

My mother taught me – MORE LOGIC.
“If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you’re not going to the store with me.”

My mother  taught me – FORESIGHT.
“Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”

My mother taught me about the science of – OSMOSIS.
“Shut your mouth and eat your supper.”

My mother taught me  about – CONTORTIONISM.
“Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!”

My mother taught me about – STAMINA.
“You’ll sit there until all that spinach is gone.”

My mother taught me about – HYPOCRISY.
“If  I told you once, I’ve told you a million times–don’t exaggerate!”

My mother  taught me about – BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.
“Stop acting like your father!”

My mother taught me about – ENVY.
“There are millions of less  fortunate children in this world who don’t have wonderful parents like you  do.”

My mother taught me about – ANTICIPATION.
“Just wait until we get  home.”

My mother taught me – MEDICAL SCIENCE.
“If you don’t stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that  way.”

My mother taught me – ESP.
“Put your sweater on; don’t you think I know when you are cold?”

My mother taught me – DARK HUMOR.
“When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don’t come running to me.”

My mother taught me – HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT.
“If you don’t eat your vegetables, you’ll never grow up.”

My mother taught me – GENETICS.
“You’re just like your father.”

My mother taught me – WISDOM.
“When you get to be my age, you’ll understand.”

And the most enduring one:

My mother  taught me about – JUSTICE.
“One day you’ll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like  you!”

Does her Teddy Bear she’s holding count as an animal of husbandry?  I do have to take care of him…

Happy Mother’s Day Ladies!

The Bag Lady

050709_1113

I made this bag yesterday, and have actually decided to keep it for myself — I know, I know…  But I do plan on making another just like it, I think.  Anyway, it’s a bit bigger than I have made so far and is more like a normal tote size.

050709_1114

I made plenty of little pockets inside and actually the larger pocket was drooping a bit so I attached a little button to keep it contained.  The top of all my bags have a magnetic closure too, and I’ve found some better quality ones than what I stared with.

My second that I completed today couldn’t be more different than the one above.  If I were to name them, the top would be “Rough and Ready” and the bottom would be “Asian Paradise,” with light and dark greens, coral, light pink, dark pink, gold and tan.  The black band at the top actually has a very small, delicate, charcoal gray flower pattern on it that is very subtle.

I’ve noticed on my previous bags that the handles are kind of annoying the way they twist, so I’ve reinforced them with some heavy duty fusing to make them more stiff — I like these a lot better!

The inside of my Asian Paradise bag has a nice coral fabric with the pockets, four total.  Oh, and on the outside is four pockets also — so there’s plenty of room to store your junk!

I’m definitely selling the Asian Paradise bag at the Peddler’s Faire and I think I’ll make a smaller “twin” for it too as well as the Rough and Ready.  I’ll let you know what I get at the fabric store this weekend!

Hope you’re all doing well!

Rainy Day Work – Photo Cards

We’ve been receiving some very much needed rain here the past couple of days and it has given me good opportunity to stay inside and work on my photo cards I’m going to sell at our Peddler’s Faire.  I wanted to share what I’ve got so far, and thank you all for responding to my questions.  I have taken what every one has said and use your thoughts to create — so far, this is what I have and there’s more to come… some with quotes, some without.

sister-texture

This is “Sister,” we call her that because my daughter and her share the same first name… Obviously I’m a fan of Annie Oakley.  I didn’t get a lot of ‘wows’ over the other photo I took and actually found this one that I liked better.  Getting shots of grazing is a hard thing to do, if you want to make it look creative.

lupinepicker

This is part of my Lupine Series…

grasped

… as is this one.  How do you like them?  I was thinking these would be in a little bundle of Lupine photos tied with some raffia and a little tag.

I think I’ll include this one in a scenic set, since I don’t have a series on geese, but like them anyway and I know a lot of people around here do too.

And this is one of my favorites.  I’m actually thinking on having it turned into a canvas for myself (without the border though.)

trinity-river

And last but not least, this photo of our local river which flows right next to the Peddler’s Faire.  It’s always a good thing to have some “local-ness” for those that want a little token of the world around them.

What do you think so far?

Sunday Stills — Flowers & Plants; Lupine

For this week’s challenge over at Sunday Stills, Ed gave us yet another subject that I love — Flowers & Plants.

050109_0903

I have a favorite patch of Lupine that grows near by at our local lake.  I found the patch last May and went to check and see if the flowers were blooming yet, especially with all the hot weather we’d been having the week before.

Fortunately for us here in Northern California, we’ve been getting some rain and it let up enough for me to take photos of my patch of lupine leaving beautiful little diamonds on their leaves.

050109_0900

Though my patch isn’t quite in full bloom yet, I plan to go back for more photos this coming week hopefully in the morning when the light starts to filter through the trees.

050109_0908

Taking my daughter with me to look at the pretty flowers is always fun as everything is so new in her eyes.  Of course, like any little girl, she wants to pick them too…

050109_0904

It is a flower’s fate, to be grasped by a little girl’s hands.

050109_0887

Isn’t it interesting how we can get so bored with life and the things that are made by human hands but we never tire of seeing another sunset, sunrise, spring, or fall?

050109_0939

I really don’t believe that’s by chance.

Enjoy your Sunday!
