A Name Has Been Chosen

Posted in Award, Bags, Crafting, Hereford Cattle on June 10, 2009 by mudranch

Well, I’ve finally decided on a name!  Hurray, my little heifer calf no longer has to be “Heifer Calf” — how boring is that?

053109_2065

With a little face like this, she desperately needs a good name and I was fresh out when she was born.  Thankfully I had the thought to call on all of you and got some excellent suggestions:

  1. June
  2. Mae
  3. Mitzi
  4. Olivia
  5. Mooreen (Maureen)
  6. Llewella or Llewellen (<3 those!)
  7. Rosalie
  8. Essie
  9. Ethel
  10. Mildred
  11. Cassey, Bessy, Flossy (<3 this!), Petunia
  12. Esmerelda or Euphemia (never heard of the latter — great!)
  13. Matilida (my favorite cow is Mattilda!)
  14. Layanni
  15. Milicent

I seriously loved all of these — you all really had some great ones!  I almost went with the hilarious Mooreen as it is so fitting to the cow but finally chose Dianne’s Layanni because as she said, it is a nod to her excellent mother Layla, and because a big girl has to have a frilly name.  I couldn’t agree more!

Congratulations Dianne – you win a pack of 5 of my Equus cards!  I know you’ll put them to good use.

I was going to announce our Etsy shops today but decided to wait until tomorrow… I feel the need to add a few more items to our shops before we go ahead and make them “public.”  Thank you for your patience, and see you tomorrow!

An Award and other snippits

Posted in Abigail, Annie, Award, Family, LGD, Me on February 2, 2009 by mudranch

Annie and I have been enjoying the warm weather here, though we don’t exactly need sun in January and February as we’re supposed to have rain and if we don’t have rain then our resevoirs won’t fill up and the salmon will die and the farmers throughout central California won’t have water for the crops and the food will skyrocket in price and we’ll have to import more food which could be dangerous to our health ’cause heavens knows HOW the imported food is grown and kept clean… but enough of that, this is a happy post.

Annie did, however, want to show you all the pretty dress she picked out this morning from the laundry basket full of unfolded clothes that’s sitting on the bathroom floor.  She even picked the bloomers to match, but they’re under the jeans her mother insisted that she wear.

She also wanted to show you all her wonderful Abby whom she loves so very very much.  Abby is the sweetest canine sister any one could want and Annie’s pretty proud to call her her own.

Abby probably weighs 120 lbs. at 16 months old but she sure doesn’t like the big suit she’s been given.  Abby wants to be a lhasa or possibly a maltese or even a chihuahua.  Abby isn’t proud of her height or build, and would much rather be petite, short, and on your lap without inflicting pain.  I have a friend who says she’s 5′12″ and I told her that Abby and she had similar frames of mind, the “Why am I so tall?” frame of mind.  But I love my tall friend and my tall dog just the way they are.

But then I tend to be the type of person who won’t dye my hair because it is the color God wanted me to have… Though I wouldn’t argue if He decided to make me 5′7″ instead of 5′3″.

Now on to business… My friend Shannon at Stories from the Farm (Kenleigh Acres) gave me a very nice award today.

fabulousblogaward

Along with this blog award comes the responsibility to list five things I’m addicted to and then pass it on to five people so here goes:

  1. Photoshop- Just like Shannon mentioned, I am addicted to all the neat things Photoshop has to offer.
  2. My Nikon D50- she ain’t new, she ain’t top of the line but I sure like the photos she produces.
  3. Stampin’ Up!-  Too much of my money has funded their operation.
  4. Mochas- especially Peppermint mochas, or the Java Chip Frapuccinos at Starbucks.
  5. Anything that has to do with Jacob Sheep and Kiger Mustangs… I’m a bit of an obsessive person with these two types of creatures.

I could list more than that but I don’t want you all to know just how addictive of a personality I have… Thankfully it’s never anything harmful.

  1. Linda at the 7MSN, I’m sure she’s received this award as she has so many followers but I wanted her to know how much I appreciate her sense of humor and her photos.
  2. Raising Country Kids, what a fun place to visit.  Another one with excellent photography and a fun sense of humor; but very different to the one above.
  3. Michelle at Boulderneigh, a very informative blog on knitting, fibers, and Shetland sheep!
  4. Lisa at Laughing Orca Ranch, I’m sure she’s probably received this by now but she has a very nice blog where she wears her heart on her sleeve.  A very honest person, loving and fun with neat critters too!
  5. Pony Girl, another popular blog that I really enjoy visiting.  I love all the cowgirl things she shares with us and her trail rides are always fun to go along on.

Thanks again Shannon! :)

And the winner is…

Posted in Anniversary, Award, Giveaway on January 1, 2009 by mudranch

This morning I went on to random.org and had that little machine in the numbers department pick a random number, from 1-13 (being that the last two comments don’t count, it worked out well).

The lucky winning number was my favorite number 7!  My cousin Kate is the lucky winner of my hand crocheted scarf, and being that she lives in Pennsyltucky I know she’ll have plenty of opportunities to use it.

I hope you like it Kate!  And being that you’re my cousin, there’s no need to send me your address… I’ve got it. ;)

Thanks everybody and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

And Danielle, you mentioned you’re in Boulder… So is my brother.  I think my Dad (see comments on the giveaway thread) wanted you to know that. :D

Sheep Lover’s Blog Club

Posted in Award, Jacob Sheep, Tag on November 26, 2008 by mudranch

I’ve been listed under the Horse Blogs for quite a while now, and I do write about my horses every now and then but it seems to me that these sheep are taking over.  So on some of my horsey-blog-friend’s websites there is a little badge in their widgets that says “Horse Lovers” and that got my little gears grinding.  I’ve met more happy sheep owners through blogging and am fascinated with their entries about their little ovine friends.  So I came up with this:

It is my hand scratching my favorite ewe, “Violet,” behind the ear.  I wanted to create this little badge and pass it on to some of my new Sheep Blog Buddies and the only strings attached are that you also pass it on to some of yours, link to them and who passed it to you, and we’ll have a real bonified fire kindled for the Sheep Lover’s Blog Club.  Feel free to fit this smaller size in your widgets if you’re invited into the Sheep Lover’s Blog Club, this way we know who you are.

If it is too big for your sidebar, let me know and I’ll get you a smaller version.

So, on to my Sheep Lover’s Blog Club inductees:

Now go forth, and invite more!  I know there’s a lot of us out there!

An Award

Posted in Award, Me on July 8, 2008 by mudranch

Well I certainly didn’t mean to put this off.  It definitely does not reflect my gratitude for the award by putting it off this long… The weeks just seem to get away from me and they’re getting faster the more mobile my daughter gets.  Yeah, we’ll blame it on her.  It’s the right thing to do.

But!  I was given an award over at Laughing Orca Ranch for the Arte y Pico award.  What an honor!  Thank you so much as you are too gracious with your description of my photos and silly little blog.  I am so glad that you are all enjoying it.  I had never imagined that my blog would get this big and that I’d have so many things to talk about but now when I’m out and about, it really captures my mind and my photos.  I am constantly shooting with this blog in mind.  I enjoy it really, it is a creative outlet and a place for me to post my pictures instead of having them sit on my hard drive wondering what I am going to do with them.  So thank you all for reading.

What a neat award the Arte y Pico award is.  Here is the descirption and rules:

The origin of the Arte y Pico Award: “This prize has arisen from the daily visits that I dedicate to many blogs which nourish me and enrich me with creativity. In them, I see dedication, creativity, care, comradeship, but mainly, ART, much art. I want to share this prize with all those bloggers that entertain me day to day and to share this prize with those who enrich me every day. Doubtlessly, there are many and it will be hard to pick just a few. The people I will name today deserve this prize, as do the very long serious list of bloggers I also enjoy to read. But I will name the first 10 and leave the rest of the work to all the bloggers that visit other’s blogs and are nourished by them.”“Arte Y Pico” blog so that everyone will know where the award came from.
5. Show these rules.

Here are the rules, if you decide to pass the award further to remarkable blogs in blogosphere worth to mention:

The rules:
1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award through creativity, design, interesting material, and also contributes to the blogger community, no matter of language.
2. Each award should have the name of the author with a link to their blog.
3. Award winners have to post the award with the name and link to the blog of the person who gave them the award.
4. Please include a link to the

So here’s my awardees, or giftees, or… you get the idea.

Townie:  Townie has been with me since the beginning.  In fact, I believe she is the very first non-family member to comment on my blog.  Her blog is definitely a good visit though, providing much creativity.  She stamps her own cards, cooks, grows veggies, loves animals of all sorts, and provides an inside look to Scotland where she is from.  We also have a sisterhood through Land Rovers… speaking of which, I still have to post a photo.  Where does the time go!?

Under the Grow Light:  Netherfieldmom has some great inspiration for me.  She is a sister in Christ and takes raising her daughters, playing outside with the animals, being a stay-at-home-homeschooling-mom, very seriously and I thank her for the inspiration.  I am so glad that she found me as I feel like I’ve known her a long time, we have so much in common.  Too bad we don’t live closer.  I am blessed by her blog all the time.

Julie Thorson’s Horse Talk:  Every time I go to Julie’s blog I am inspired by her writing and devotion to the equine world.  I think that Julie’s writing is art, I have enjoyed it in my magazines before I entered the blogosphere, and now am happy to see that I can communicate with her through blogs.  She is a busy lady, lives in the country side of Idaho, is devoted to her horses and the Appaloosa breed, and grows an awesome garden with her miracle compost of equine leavings.

Hola Mole:  This is where I feed my cravings for Mexico.  I love Mexico, used to vacation there as a child, love the language, the people, the food, the atmosphere, the the the…. I could go on.  Molly has a gorgeous little horse that reminds me of my spoiled girl Annie Oakley and shows me the the life of living in a country I love.  Her photography is creative, her stories are always fun to read.

Kenleigh Acres:  Shannon has become a good “sheep friend” of mine.  Another lady I wish lived closer.  She is my help when I am in need of Jacob sheep advice.  She’s busy raising her son, tending her flock, and making super creative things out of their horns and wool.  She is also an expert herdswoman and uses her dogs to gather her sheep and attends competitions.  Shannon is also a fellow photographer and seems to be specializing in photos of dog competitions such as Lure Coursing with whippits.  Yes, she is a very well rounded person.

That’s my pick!  Happy blogging!
